About the Instructor

Adam Sorkin is a lifelong martial artist, starting with Karate at age 11. Although he first encountered Aikido in university, he began training formally when he moved to Japan in 1995.

He trained for six years under I. Kubota Shihan, and then for another eight years at Hombu Dojo (Aikido World Headquarters) in Tokyo.

Additionally, he trained in Zen Meditation and Misogi-no-kokyu-ho (Shinto ascetic breathwork) at Ichikukai Dojo, spending seven years there, including one year as a live-in student.

Since returning to the U.S. in 2009, Sorkin has trained mainly within the Birankai organization, although he has friends across many branches of the Aikido family.

He currently holds the rank of 5th Dan.
